It's late October in the Snowdonia National Park, North Wales, and the trees are displaying their Autumn finery for a few brief days before early winter storms strip the branches bare for another year.
My wife Liz and I always make a point of visiting as many of Snowdonia's autumnal beauty spots as possible during rare periods of sunshine, drinking in the riot of colours and earthy fragrances that permeate the landscape at this time of year.
Among our 'must see' autumn destinations in Snowdonia is Llyn Mymbyr, surrounded by trees on one side and bracken coated hillsides on the other, this is a place where the rich colours of nature really come to the fore.
This particular tree, growing by the side of the path down past the Plas-y-Brenin outdoor centre and glowing in the weak October sun, caught my eye immediately as the golden colour of its leaves was so striking when set against the dark background of trees in shadow on the far side of Llyn Mymbyr.
It took two or three attempts to dial in the correct shutter speed for this shot, as the brightly lit yellow leaves were getting seriously overexposed at the recommended settings.
