Athough not so visually dramatic as their more pointy neighbours in the Glyderau range, the mountains of the Carneddau in the Snowdonia National Park have a grace and beauty all their own.
And my wife Liz and I certainly enjoyed our New Year's Day hike amongst the Carneddau as we headed up the Dwr Cymru access road to the lovely Ffynnon Llugwy reservoir.
The views from the track as we ascended in the crisp winter sunlight were just breath taking, such as this one, looking back down the Ogwen Valley to the monolith of Pen yr Ole Wen, crowned with a light covering of misty clouds and dominating the valley below.
