Mean, moody and magnificent. No wonder Tryfan has been voted the UK's favourite mountain!
Part of the Glyderau range in the Snowdonia National Park, North Wales, Tryfan is easily distinguished by its 'Cornish Pastie' summit ridge and craggy rock faces, complete with the famous 'Adam and Eve' twin rock pillars at the peak.
Weather in this part of North Wales can be interesting to say the least, and I was fortunate on this occasion to catch the mountain under the shadow of a heavy storm cloud while the foreground in front of me remained in bright sunshine.
A classic chiaroscuro lighting situation, and although the foregorund only remained lit for a minute or so before the clouds completely obscured the sun I was able to capture a few frames, emphasising the drama and brooding menace of the mountain cloaked in darkness.
And then it started to pour down on me!
