Halfway between Betws-y-Coed and Capel Curig on the old A5 historic coaching route through Snowdonia in North Wales you'll come across this most improbable little stone and thatch cottage, known as the 'Ugly House'.
Now a tearoom and conservation centre run by the Snowdonia Society, the origins of the Ugly House are shrouded in mystery, which only seems to increase its appeal.
My wife Liz and I had driven past here on numerous occasions on our way to check out the scenery around Snowdon, but one sunny afternoon on a day in early spring we finally stopped at the Ugly House for a look around and some refreshment in the form of tea and scones.
We spent around half an hour walikng around the cottage and its mini nature reserve beofre returning to our car, much refreshed, for our onward journey.
Of course, I couldn't let the opportunity to take a photo or two go by, waiting here at the entrance for a few minutes until the scene was finally free of people for a few seconds.
Just a charming spot, and I'm so glad we finally decided to visit for a short while.
