Driving north on the first day of a long weekend in the Lake District in July 2020, my wife Liz and I stopped for a breather by the side of the river Duddon, near the small village of Ulpha.
The views from the riverbank were just lovely, and I was soon clambering down to the water's edge (and beyond!), camera in hand to capture some photos of the rapids and small waterfalls that make up this stretch of the watercourse.
To do justice to the scene, and given the extreme contrast range between the bright sky above, and deep shadows under the trees along the river, I had to brace myself and take five seperate exposures, each one stop apart, to allow for a high dynamic range (HDR) blend, capturing detail and the darkest shadows and brightest part of the sky and water.
What a great place for a leg stretch, and with the promise of plently more beautiful scenery to come as we headed further north.
