The story behind this image

The west of Ireland has a majestic and extremely varied coastline, and my wife Liz and I have spent many happy holidays exploring quite a bit of it.

But there are some locations which we make a point of revisiting time after time, and the seaside town of Ballybunion in County Kerry is one such.

The main attraction here at Ballybunion is the ruined castle, perched high on a cliff overlooking the beach and the Atlantic ocean, stretching all the way to America, three thousand miles away.

Built at the beginning of the sixteenth century, the now ruined tower makes for a stunning photographic subject, especially set in the dramatic scenery the characterises this part of the world.

So perhaps we can be forgiven for paying a bit more attention to Ballybunion on our visits to the west coast of Ireland.
