The story behind this image

Most visitors who make the trip up to the cliffs at South Stack on the beautiful Isle of Anglesey, just off the North Wales coast, do so in order to see the amazing and dramatic lighthouse, perched on an island of rock at the base of those huge cliffs.

And I'm one of them, having made countless trips to South Stack to photograph the sunset over the lighthouse.

But swing your camera through 180° and the view in the opposite direction is just as entrancing, as the dramatic coastline draws the eye out across the Irish Sea to the mountains of the Llyn Peninsula in the far distance.

And perched on those cliffs is the square, crenellated, whitewashed Ellin's tower, an RSPB lookout post giving a grandstand view out over the thousands of nesting seabirds squabbling loudly on the cliffs and rocks next to the lighthouse.

And Ellin's Tower makes for a great photographic focal point, making the view away from the lighthouse more than worthwhile to photograph.

Especially late on a midsummer's evening, when the golden rays of the setting sun are bathing the rocks in gorgeous warm light.

So many beautiful views, it's hard to know which way to point your camera!
