Midsummer on the North Wales coast, and with the sun rising as far to the northeast as it gets, this was my opportunity to film a dramatic sunrise over the turbines of the Gwynt-y-Môr offshore wind farm in Colwyn Bay.
My chosen location for this shoot was the North Shore promenade at Llandudno, giving a great view out to the turbines and a nice, stable platform for my tripod - important when using a long telephoto lens as the slightest vibration will cause the final timelapse to jump around alarmingly.
With clear skies forecast I was hopeful of a clean sunrise, but as the time approached I was a bit dismayed by the layer of heavy haze laying along the horizon.
But in the end that haze proved to be a blessing, as the dust and moisture in the atmosphere reduced the brightness of the rising sun and gave some lovely colour gradations as the sun rose higher in the sky over the slowly rotating turbines.
Eventually, as the sun rose higher still and the light levels rose, it was time to pack up and head home for a doze while my few thousand images from the shoot donwloaded into my computer.
What a way to start the day!
