Surely one of the most magnificent sights in the Canary Islands, or anywhere else for that matter, is the view of the sun setting over the imposing peak of the Mount Teide volcano.
During our latest stay on Tenerife, in February 2025, my wife Liz and I spent many happy hours exploring the other-worldly volcanic landscapes of the Teide National Park, at 2,000m+ above sea level in the centre of the island.
But we always managed to end up looking west towards the volcano as sunset approached, marvelling in the beautiful colours developing in the sky as the light slowly faded from the scene and the glowing disk of the sun slid down Mount Teide's flank.
But on this particular evening wew were also treated to the view of an undulating blanket of cloud over the north coast, and as the darkness grew, the lights of Porto de la Cruz started to glow orange through the clouds.
Just an awe-inspiring sight!
