A rare cloudy sky at sunrise over the Atlantic ocean, looking southeast from Golf del Sur on the southern coast of Tenerife in the Canary Islands, gave me a bit of light relief from the endless blue skies and super-bright dawn sunlight my wife Liz and I had enjoyed up to now.
We were spending two weeks in February 2025 exploring the island's volcanic landscapes, but every morning I would make a point of getting up before sunrise to set up my camera on our balcony and enjoy the cool early morning air while filming the arrival of the sun for another day.
But on this morning, with broken cloud cover streaming by along the horizon, I wasn't sure if I'd see a sunrise at all.
But I needn't have worried, as those clouds provided me with a dramatic display of sunbeams lancing through the skies as the sun rose.
And after just a few minutes the sun broke clear of the clouds and everything got very bright very quickly.
Time to pack up for the morning and enjoy a nice breakfast on the balcony.
