Two weeks spent exploring Tenerife in the Canary Islands opened up some extraordinary landscapes for my wife Liz and I.
And one of the most extraordinary was the other-worldly volcanic caldera of the Teide National Park in the centre of the island.
The view is dominated by the magnificent cone of the Mount Teide volcano, rising to a height of over 3,700 metres above sea level, surrounded by the huge caldera from a previous eruption.
One of the best times to be driving though the park is sunset, as the clear air holds the twilight glow before night quickly falls, revealing a myriad stars, planets and constellations in this world renowned dark skies location.
So, of course, we had to stop in one of the many viewpoints to catch this time lapse video of the dusk fading to night over Mount Teide, as the stars came out and satellites zoomed by over the volcanic cone on the horizon.
Just wonderful!
