The promise of a clear horizon at sunrise had me out of bed mega early one summer's day in July 2019, and on my way to Talacre on the North Wales coast before my brain caught up with what my body was doing.
Experiencing a beautiful sunrise is always an uplifting experience, watching God's handiwork in creation moving like clockwork towards the start of a new day.
But to photograph a time lapse of a sunrise requires something a bit more, a stationary focal point against which the movement of the sun and clouds can be juxtaposed.
Hence my trip to Talacre, with the famous Point of Ayr lighthouse sticking out of the sandy beach and, on this occasion, surrounded by sea at high tide.
Having arrived and marched up the beach fully laden with LowePro and tripod I positioned myself carefully so that I'd catch the sun rising just to the right of the lighthouse and then tracking southwards towards the right hand side of my composition.
It seemed I hadn't arrived a moment too soon, as the clouds in the twilight sky to the northeast were already lighting up with the glowing, warm colours of dawn.
Well, I had a wonderful morning watching and filming on the almost deserted beach as the sun finally rose above the horizon, turning night to day and lighting up the scene before me.
All too soon it was time to pack up and head back to my car for the short drive home and then on to a day's work in the factory.
But what a way to start the day!
