I love going out photographing in winter. The light is low angled all day long and sunset is at a very reasonable 4pm.
So it was no suprise that after a day's walking around Colwyn Bay and Rhos-on-Sea on our local North Wales coast, my wife Liz and I ended up on the West Shore at Llandudno to watch the sunset.
Even better in winter is that the sun sets to the southwest, putting the action directly over the imposing headland of Penmaenmawr on the other side of the tidal Conwy estuary.
In the end we spent an hour sitting on the sea wall, watching in wonder as first the sun set in a fiery ball, and then the sky caught fire as the sun found a gap in the haze below the horizon and threw its dying light onto the clouds over the sea.
What a magnificent show! I was so glad Liz and I were there to see it, and even more glad that I'd set up to take this time lapse sequence, not knowing beforehand what lay in store!
