High drama in the skies above the peaks of the Snowdon Horseshoe as seen from the shores of Llyn Mymbyr, surely one of the most iconic and most photographed views in the Snowdonia National Park, North Wales.
My wife Liz and I often stop here for a picnic on one of our tours around the park, occasionally seeing beautiful light playing out over the landscape, but more often than not just driving by under flat, grey clouds and featureless scenery.
But not this time, with an active weather front moving in from the west the cloud action above the mountains was eye catching to say the least, and with gaps in the clouds allowing shafts of sunlight to paint the hills in a chiaroscuro dance of light and shadow there was no way I was going to pass this photographic opportunity by.
So a squelchy tramp down from the layby to the shores of Llyn Mymbyr ensued, laden with all the paraphenalia needed to shoot a time lapse sequence.
After a few minutes' re-positioning I found some firm ground for my tripod and spent the next twenty minutes or so capturing the wonderful movement of cloud, light and shadow across the scene.
Surely one of the most beautiful places in the UK, in the right weather of course!
