Hoping to film the full moon setting over the distant mountains of Snowdonia on a cold and frosty winter's morning, I got up early and drove fifteen minutes to my viewpoint of choice for this spectacle, the Pen Barras car park on the slopes of Moel Famau, the highest peak in the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
On arriving, I quickly came to the conclusion that I would have to modify my plans somewhat, as the moon was nowhere to be seen, hidden behind the fast moving wrack of stormy clouds that were sweeping up the Vale of Clwyd and over the market town of Ruthin in the valley below me.
The clouds were quite dramatic, so I decided to film the transition from night to day over Ruthin instead as the streetlights cast an eerie orange glow on the fast moving clouds lying just a few hundred feet over the town.
I'm glad I bothered, as the changing light conditions and colour temperatures that played out for me over the next hour as night gave way to dawn were quite entrancing, alhtough I have to admit I watched most of the show from the warmth of my car as it was flippin' freezing outside!
