The barking sound of elk in the rutting season boomed out over the grassland at Moraine Park in the Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado, USA as a bank of photographers all train their long lenses on the distant action.
During our two week stay in Estes Park my wife Liz and I came across a lot of elk, and my interest in them quickly waned.
So while my fellow photographers were shooting away at a brown speck in the distance I turned my attention westwards to a glorious display of sunset lighting over the peaks of the Rockies.
The show only lasted a few minutes, just long enough for me to shoot the 360 still frames needed to create this time lapse video.
So athough elk can be quite amusing (or not if you come across one close up!) I would much rather enjoy a spectacular lightshow and fantastic scenery.
