Just to the east of the Rocky Mountain National Park lies the Brainard Lake Recreation Area, a wilderness location in the Roosevelt National Forest at over 10,000 feet boasting the beautiful Brainard Lake, backed by the high peaks of the Rockies to the west.
Liz and I visited this lake on two occasions during our holiday in the area.
The first time, just after we had arrived at the start of our holiday, we really didn't feel up to hiking around the lake, with the sudden increase in altitude from our normal sea level living leaving us both somewhat breathless.
So we settled for a picnic at the nearest point of the lake to the car park, which is where I shot the stills for this time lapse video.
We had read the warning signs at the trailhead that told us to beware of sudden changes in weather, but with it being such a lovely day to start with we weren't expecting the thunderstorm that developed overhead in about fifteen minutes flat.
The brief rain shower put a dampener on our picnic, but the roiling clouds made for a great time lapse sequence, so I, at least, was happy!
