One of the most pleasurable things about my wife Liz's and my trip to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado was the driving.
The Rocky Mountains boasts the highest paved road in the United States, the Trail Ridge Road, which peaks at a tad over 12,000 feet, and driving it was amazing, with one stunning view following the last in a seemingly endless procession.
One of our favourite stopping places was the overlook at Rainbow Curve (toilets available!), and we always paused there to admire the view out over the Alluvial Fan, Horseshoe Park and the Sheep Lakes.
On this particular occasion there was a covering of broken cloud streaming by overhead, painting the landscape below in a ballet of light and shadow and showing off the contours of the surrounding mountains.
So, of course, I took the opportunity to record this strikingly beautiful scene as a time lapse, with Liz and I munching on our sandwiches as the light show played out before our eyes.
