Rhyl Timelapse #1

The story behind this video

The potent combination of a high tide, stiff onshore breeze and the promise of a nice sunset sent me scurrying to the the North Wales coast for a spot of evening photography.

But instead of going to my usual favourite spots I thought I'd try something different and photograph the tide coming up the beach at Rhyl.

I knew there was a nice flat expanse of sand there, up which the tide could race, punctuated by groynes and breakwaters which would act a static elements in an otherwise moving scene.

I started shooting the stills for this time lapse sequence dwon on the sand, but soon thought better of that and prudently moved up to the top of the sea wall and started afresh.

I'm glad I did, because by the time I'd finished filming this time lapse an hour later the place I was standing originally was under about two feet of water!

Talk about think and plan ahead!
