An unusually calm and sunny day in March 2018 was all the excuse my wife Liz and I needed to head to the wonderful Snowdonia National Park in North Wales for a bit of sightseeing and hiking.
One of our favorite routes, and a very easy one at that, is the path up from Llyn Ogwen to Llyn Idwal, giving views over Tryfan and the Glyderau to the south and the Carneddau range to the north, dominated by the high peak of Pen yr Ole Wen.
Arriving at Llyn Idwal I noticed a dramatic cloud starting to build over the summit of Pen yr Ole Wen, so while Liz found a rock to sit on I climbed down to the side of the little runoff stream that flows out of Idwal to frame up this time lapse video, taking in Pen yr Ole Wen with the stream acting as a leading line towards the mountain.
Along with Tryfan, Pen yr Ole Wen is one of my favourite mountains.
If you asked a child to draw a mountain, Pen yr Ole Wen is what they would come up with, almost a perfect cone from this angle and very photogenic, which is why it features in so many of my Snowdonia images.
Anyhow, we had a twenty minute break while my camera happily clicked away by itself down at the side of the stream before packing everything away and heading back down to Llyn Ogwen and onwards to our next destination.
What a great way to spend an afternoon.
