In northeast Wales where I live clear skies at sunset are a rarity, and clear skies with flat calm conditions are even more hard to find.
So when these two weather phenomena combined over the easter weekend of 2019 my wife Liz and I took full advantage with a 15 minute drive up to our local hill, Moel Famau on the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, to watch the sunset.
But of course, I wasn't going to just watch the show, and I quickly had my camera set up at a vantage point that allowed me to catch the sun setting behind the slope of the mountain, lighting up the wispy clouds with a firey red blaze as it fell out of sight.
Because of the calm conditions I was able to use my longest lens to make the sun as big as possible in the camera's viewfinder, not possible if there's any wind about as the slightest movement of the 400mm lens results in a very twitchy video.
So I made every effort to shoot the sequence using the best techniques possible to give the highest quality video, not knowing when I might get conditions like these again.
