Early November, and here in North Wales the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness is well under way.
Mind you, I'm not feeling particularly mellow after heaving myself and my camera kit up to the summit of Moel Famau, the highest peak in the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), in order to catch the sunrise far away to the southeast.
Stretching out below me, as far as the eye can see, is a billowing sea of fog, trapped under an early morning inversion layer covering the low lying land out to the river Dee estaury and beyond.
With the sky along the horizon glowing orange in the approaching dawn, and the swirling fog reflecting the cool blue tones of the twilight heavens, conditions were just perfect for a time lapse video shoot, so I wasted no time in setting up my camera and tripod to capture the hundreds of still images needed to create just a few seconds of time lapse.
It wasn't too long to wait before the bright rim of the rising sun breasted the horizon, shooting its golden beams over the undulating vapour before disappearing again behind a band of low cloud.
But I kept on filming and was rewarded as the sun rose above the clouds, lighting up the low lying mist with a bright glowing nimbus.
In the end I captured nearly an hour and a half of the sunrise before finally packing my gear away for the long climb back down from the summit of Moel Famau to my waiting car.
On the way down I passed many people climbing up, enjoying the sunshine, but I reckon I experienced the best of the morning by far!
