One weekend in early August 2020 my wife Liz and I decided on an excursion around the Wirral Peninsula, taking in West Kirby, Hoylake, round past New Brighton and ending up at Seacombe Dock, the departure point for the famous Mersey Ferry to Liverpool on the far side of the River Mersey.
For Liz, being a Liverpudlian, this brought back many childhood memories, so the following day we returned to Seacombe Dock and took the Mersey Ferry over the river to the Liverpool Waterfront, docking for a short while in front of the Royal Liver Building, surely one of the best known buildings in the UK, if not the world.
We made the return sailing to the Wirral in time for some fish and chips at New Brighton and a stroll around the promenade before heading back to Seacombe Dock for, what for me, was the main event.
Having seen the iconic Liverpool skyline earlier in the day I was keen to watch and film the scene through sunset, dusk, twilight and on into night, as the natural light of day was slowly replaced by the bright lights across the water.
And I wasn't disappointed, filming for around an hour and a half and watching entranced at the changing light.
A wonderful end to a great day out.
