Admiral Lord Nelson described the Menai Straits, separating the Isle of Anglesey from the North Wales coast, as one of the most dangerous navigable stretches of water in the world.
And the most dangerous part, lying between the Thomas Telford suspension bridge and the Robert Stephenson Britannia Bridge, known as the 'Swellies', is shown here in this time lapse video on a rising tide.
But it wasn't so much the tidal race that drew my attention on this occasion.
Rather it was the dramatic chiaroscuro lighting, with the bridge and foreground brightly lit by the light of the low angled late afternoon sun, while the mountains of Snowdonia in the background were in shadow, and full of brooding menace.
