At the start of our holiday on the island of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands Liz and I had a good look though the guide books and on the internet to find interesting places to look at.
One spot that really grabbed our attention was the Dunes de Maspalomas nature reserve on the south coast, which was just a half hour's drive from where we were staying at Taurito.
Looking like a mini Sahara, these dunes are located between the two highly popular resorts of Maspalomas and Playa des Ingles, and there's even a lighthouse to admire at the Maspaloms end of the beach.
We actually visited the dunes four times during our stay, two scouting expeditions followed by two time lapse photography sessions.
This sunrise shoot was the first of the time lapse sessions, and shows the view out over the larger dunes from the Playa des Ingles as the sun comes up and casts moving shadows across the faces of the dunes themselves.
As the sun rose higher more and more people turned up and you can see them trekking across the sand towards the sea at the end of the video.
A fascinating and unusual place that we weren't expecting to find so close to two main tourist resorts.
