Autumn in the Snowdonia National Park, North Wales, can be a sensory delight, with the sights, smells and sounds of this mellow season blending together in a rich tapestry of beauty, peace and tranquility.
Alternatively, gales and rain coming in off the Irish Sea at this time of year can make venturing out of your car quite an experience, and not of the good kind!
For my wife Liz and myself, living only an hour's drive from Snowdonia means that we can pick the nice days to explore, which is what we did for this trip to Llyn Crafnant in early November 2016.
Llyn Crafnant is one of the jewels in Snowdonia's crown, a truly beautiful lake surrounded by wooded slopes of the Gwydyr forest north and south and backed by the Carneddau range of mountains to the west.
In autumn those trees, given a chance by the weather, put on a glorious display of autumn colours which, on a calm day, produce a stunning reflection in the lake's surface.
On the occasion of our visit the sky was overcast with some nicely contoured clouds moving from right to left - ideal conditions for a time lapse video sequence that would show off the autumn colours of the trees with the added attraction of the cloud movement.
So I framed up this classic view of the lake and let my camera do its thing for twenty five minutes, only stopping once a slight breeze had sprung up, ruffling the surface of the waters and bringing those mirror-like reflections to an end.
