This time lapse video sequence is a reprise of my earlier attempt Sunrise and tide at Llandudno #1 which was cut short before the tide had properly come in due to a need to go to work (annoying that isn't it!)
This time my planning was much better, and I was able to catch the sunrise and a fully incoming tide on the longest day of the year while still leaving myself enough time to get to work.
As usual at this time of day, the light goes through a huge increase in intensity as the sun broaches the horizon and then climbs into the sky, and even though I had a 3 stop ND grad filter fitted I still needed to make two major exposure adjustments during the course of shooting the stills.
Previously when faced with a situation like this I would make numerous small adjustments to exposure, which can result in a flickering effect in the video.
So this time I decided to bite the bullet and try fewer, much larger exposure adjustments instead.
I'm not sure which exposure method I prefer yet, but one thing's for sure, you just can't beat an early morning at the coast whether you're photographing or not, and I drove to work exhilariated and uplifted by the experience.
