Time Lapse Video Of Sunset Over The Great Orme, Llandudno, North Wales #35

The story behind this video

For a couple of weeks either side of midsummer up here at a latitude of 53°N on the north Wales coast, the sun sets pretty much bang on to the northwest.

Which means that there's a short window of opportunity to watch and film the sunset from the North Shore promenade at Llandudno.

What makes this view special is the looming silhouette of the Great Orme limestone headland which defines the western edge of Llandudno Bay, and adjacent to which the sun travels downwards towards the Irish Sea.

So my wife Liz and I made a few trips to catch this view during the summer of 2026, but it was only on this one occasion that we actually saw the sun set at the horizon, as usually there's a bank of low cloud which hides the sun during its dying moments.

But clear skies or no, what's not to love about an evening spent on the beautiful north Wales coast!
