The north Wales coast boasts some fascinating views that make this part of the world a playground for the outdoor photographer.
And with ever changing weather, tides and seasons you can visit the same viewpoint over and over again and never have the same experience twice.
A typical example of this is the position of the sunrise and sunset, each of which swing through an arc on the horizon of about 90° over the course of a year, with the summer months being the time when both these phenomena can be seen from the north facing shorelines.
So then, quite a few of my mornings and evenings during the summer are spent at various spots on the coast, photographing the sunrise and sunset against various landmarks, of which there are plenty!
This particular evening at the end of May 2024, my chosen location to plonk my tripod down at was the promenade between Rhos-on-Sea and Penryn Bay, looking towards the Little Orme limestone headland at Llandudno.
My plan was to catch the sun slowly sliding down the face of the cliff, and then setting below the horizon on the Irish Sea, out to the northwest.
There was some light cloud cover at the time, which only helped to enhance the spread of light and colour through the sky, giving a very pleasing visual effect as the sun dropped lower, before finally losing itself in the thickening haze just above the sea.
So, not a clean sunset in the accepted sense of the word, but a very pleasant view, and a lovely way to spend some time just filming and watching on this wonderful stretch of coast.
