With a mixture of clouds and sunny intervals forecast for late October, conditions were promising for a dramatic sunset out over the North Wales coast.
Now the North Wales coast is a great location for a sunset in summer, when the sun sets to the northwest and is visible from the whole coastline.
But as winter approaches the position of the sunset swings round to the southwest, so a bit more care is required in your choice of location.
In fact, there are very few locations along the North Wales coast to catch a sunset from October onwards, but the West Shore beach at Llandudno is one of the few that allow a sunset to be photographed during the darker months.
So that's where my wife Liz and I headed towards the end of a day spent enjoying the beautiful autumnal colours at Bodnant Gardens.
We arrived at the West shore just in time to catch this dramatic sunset, with storm clouds roiling and searchlight-like sunbeams sweeping across the skies.
So a quick camera setup was the order of the day and we spent the next forty five minutes drinking coffee and enjoying the show as my trusty old Canon DSLR clicked away until the last of the sun's glow faded from the sky along the western horizon.
What a great way to end a lovely day, just enjoying the wonder of God's creation as the world spins on its axis and the days and seasons roll around like clockwork.
