The twelfth of August 2026 was a date long written and blocked off in my google calendar, not allowing anything else to enroach on that day.
The reason - the most significant solar eclipse for many years, and certainly the last one such that I would see in my lifetime.
At our location in North Wales we were due to see a more than 90% occulsion of the sun's face as the moon passed between the sun and earth.
And with clear skies forecast my wife Liz and I had an excellent chance of witnessing this celestial event in all its glory.
The actual eclipse was due to run from just after 6pm till just after 8pm, finishing just fortyfive minutes before sunset.
So where better to watch than from one of our favourite sunset locations, the West Shore beach at Llandudno on the north Wales coast.
So we arrived in good time to set up the two camera systems I was using to capture the eclipse from both a wide angle and zoomed in perspective, resulting in almost two thousand still images which I used to create this time lapse video.
And after the eclipse was over we were treated to a lovely colourful sunset to round the evening off perfectly.
The heavens declare the Glory of God, the skies proclaim the works of his hands - Psalm 19 verse 1!
