This time lapse video was filmed from Seacombe Dock in Wallasey, Merseyside on the Wirral Peninsula on the evening and night of 18th September 2024.
This date was the second occurance of a larger then usual supermoon this year, and with the moon rising virtually due east it was an ideal opportunity to capture the event over the iconic Liverpool skyline on the far side of the river Mersey.
Conditions for photography were ideal, with clear skies and a warm gentle breeze.
I arrived on site with half an hour to spare till the moonrise, so I took advantage of the available time to set up two cameras, one with a wide angle lens to capture the overall view and one with a telephoto lens to capture a more dramatic view of the iconic Liver Building and Radio City tower, over which the moon should appear.
Well I didn't have long to wait before the unusually large, glowing yellow disc of the moon popped into view behind the Liver Building, before rising perfectly in between the two clock towers, lit with an eerie green light and with the twin Liver Bird statues perched on top.
In the end I spent an hour and a half watching and filming during this amazing evening, eventually tearing myself away for the drive back home over the border to North Wales.
