During Liz's and my holiday on the island of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands we spent a lot of time driving around the twisty mountain roads that linked the little towns and villages dotted around the volcanic landscape.
And that volcanic landscape was amazing, with plumes of hard igneous rock sticking up out of the eroded softer rocks that surrounded them.
In fact, rock spotting was one of the tourist attractions listed on our roadmap of the island.
We were fortunate enough to find an overview and parking space that looked out over this landscape towards the west, just as the sun was starting to set, so not needing any further encouragement we stopped and I set up my camera and tripod to record this spectacular view.
As the sunset progressed the volcanic peak of Mount Teide on the neighbouring island of Tenerife became visible through the Atlantic sea mist, adding a further layer of loveliness to an already breathtaking evening display.
If you look carefully to the right hand side of the video towards the end of the sequence you can make it out under a sky showing the last vestiges of twilight colour.
Just lovely!
