For many years now my wife Liz and I have holidayed along the west coast of Ireland, taking in various stretches of the 1,500 mile long the Wild Atlantic Way that hugs this dramatic coast, looking out over the Atlantic ocean.
In September 2024 we finally made it to the far north, to County Donegal, in expectation of some dramatic weather and scenery.
And we weren't disappointed, with rugged mountains, forests and, of course, one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world.
But this isn't a place for sun bunnies, as the weather coming in off 3,000 miles of ocean can be fierce, but as we're not interested in lying on a beach, this suits Liz and me just fine!
I was especially looking forward to seeing some dramatic sunsets on this west facing coastline and, apart from a couple of evenings when it poured down, I was in for a treat.
This particular time lapse video of the sunset over the coast overlooking Cruit Island was photographed from a rocky headland at a place called Kincasslagh, just a short didtance from where we were staying, and illustrates the typical weather for this part of the world, with fast moving broken clouds allowing shafts of golden sunlight to stream across the sea and sky as the sun fell towards the horizon.
So there I was, wrapped up like an artic explorer, hunched over my camera in the somewhat chilly onshore breeze for three quarters of an hour while Liz, very wisely, stayed put in the car until I'd captured the 900+ still images neded to create just these few seconds of time lapse video.
What an experience!
