Well the Wild Atlantic Way, stretching for 1,500 miles all the way down the west coast of Ireland, certainly lived up to its name during the holiday my Wife Liz and I spent exploring County Donegal in early September 2024.
The west coast of Ireland has always been a favourite place for us to explore, taking our car over on the ferry from Holyhead to Dublin and then driving across country from east to west.
Over the years we've explored most of the Wild Atlantic Way, covering some of the most dramatic scenery and weather conditions the world has to offer, but we'd never made it as far to the north as County Donegal before now.
And we weren't disappointed, with some of the mose amazing coastline and pristine white beaches we'd seen anywhere.
For the most part, the weather was unusually kind, allowing us to get out and stroll along deserted beaches without getting soaked or blown away.
But on this particular evening, just before sunset, as we were driving back southwards towards Donegal airport along the coast road, this large and fast moving fogbank started rolling down from the mountains behind us and out on over the Atlantic ocean just below the road.
So, of course, we pulled into a convenient layby and I braved the cold, drizzle and fresh breeze to capture the action as the sky above the fogbank started to glow with the colours of the approaching sunset.
It's not every day you get to see and film stuff like this!
