A long weekend spent in a cottage near Barmouth in south Snowdonia, west Wales, gave me the opportunity to head up to the beautiful Cregennan Lakes, nestled beneath the impressive bulk of Cader Idris, very early one morning.
A sunrise shoot at Cregennan had long been on my photographic wish list, so bundled up to the nines in the face of the cold breeze coming off the mountains, I set my camera up on the lakeshore looking towards the lightening skies in the east.
Over the next couple of hours I was treated to a lovely lightshow, starting with a gradual colouring along the horizon, leading to a slow lightening of the skies, rending the shapely peak of lookout hill as a stark silhouette.
Just as the sun crested the horizon I changed my position on the lakeshore to film the sun rising over the famous tree crowned island so beloved of photographers in this part of the world.
Finally, when the sun had climbed above the trees, I stopped shooting the stills for this time lapse, but I spend a few more minutes in this amazing location capturing individual pictures of the beautiful scenery, bathed in the revealing light of the low angled morning sun.
Just wonderful, and I spent the drive back to our holiday cottage tired, but grinning from ear to ear having experienced such a stunning place at the best time of the day.
