A cold, clear twilight in the skies over North Wales, and I'm standing on the limestone escarpment in the Loggerheads Country Park, looking westwards towards the hills of the Clwydian Range Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty as the last vestiges of daylight slowly fade above the horizon.
Above me the planet Venus and the first of the brighter stars are glowing in the vastness of space, making their stately way across the heavens as the earth rotates like the well ordered mechanism that it is.
While below, travelling at a much more frenetic pace, the lights of passing traffic provide a juxtaposition of light against the darkening landscape.
As the sky darkens towards the fullness of night, more of the fainter stars burst into view and satellites start to criss cross the heavens in their nightly celestial dance.
And after two hours standing and filming in the freezing January air, with Venus heading downwards towards the silhouetted peak of Moel Famau, I finally call it a night and head back down the escarpment to my waiting car and home for a much needed hot cup of coffee.
What a wonderful thing it is to watch God's creation in action!
