In June 2021 my wife Liz and I took a two week holiday to Ayrshire in southern Scotland, which has a lot of history, landscapes and coast to enjoy, and we spent most of our time driving around finding new places to explore.
But one place I kept coming back to was the wonderful coastal road running south from Girvan, and giving a fantastic view out over the Irish Sea to the uninhabited island of Ailsa Craig.
With sunset at around 10pm to the northwest, I arranged to be in position in a convenient layby to create a time lapse video of the sun dropping below the horizon just to the right of the island.
But despite four attempts I never did manage to film a 'clean' sunset.
However, I did manage to create four time lapse videos looking out over Ailsa Craig, each with varying degrees of cloud cover and sunlight.
This is the fourth and final time lapse sequence I shot from my chosen spot, and to my mind the most sucessful, with the sun visible behind broken cloud almost until sunset over the island.
