Some photos rely on colour as a compositional element, and for others colour is merely a distraction from the shape, form, tone and texture that define the image.
Such was the case here, for this image of three yachts drawn up on the promenade at Llandudno on a blazing sunny day.
What attracted me to this scene was the shape of the sails and the repeating triangles they formed against the deep blue sky, but when I came to process the image in PhotoShop I found that the colours in the image clashed and detracted from what I wanted to show.
So a quick conversion to monochrome using the hue/saturation, channel mixer, curves and photo filter adjustment layers was the order of the day and made such a difference to the impact of the image, with the shapes of the sails against the now almost black sky fully emphasised.
Isn't digital photography such a wonderful medium for expression.
