The estuary of the river Conwy, on the North Wales coast, is a fantastic place for a bit of sightseeing and photography.
This photo shows part of the marina, with rows of gleaming yachts moored up in the sunshine.
Taking this photo was quite tricky, with blown highlights an ever present problem. In the end I just managed to contain the contrast range thanks to a polariser, the latitude of a RAW file, and the shadow/highlight and selective colour adjustment tools in PhotoShop.
Thinking back to my Velvia days, I wouldn't have stood a chance with a shot like this. Those yachts would have just disappeared into white blobs, or the rest of the shot would have been completed under exposed depending on which way I decide to expose the scene.
Missing the old days? Not a chance!
