The story behind this image

The Marine Lake at West Kirby on the Wirral is a really popular spot for locals to visit.

With all the usual seaside amenities, together with the chance to walk around the huge manmade lake while watching yachts and windsurfers whizz by, it's a venue that my wife Liz and I often frequent of an evening.

But I'm not all that interested in ice cream kiosks and sandcastles.

What I love about the place is the combination of a slightly surreal built environment and the big, dramatic skies that this part of the coast is famous for.

It was an evening in late May 2016 that I took this photograph, one of a few hundred that I shot in order to make a time lapse video of the cloud movement over the Marine Lake.

Well worth a visit if you're in that part of the world, and you can even enjoy an ice cream while you're photographing!
