As part of our summer holiday cruise, Liz and I got to spend an evening in Venice, which for us was the highlight of the trip.
In anticipation of some great lowlight photo opportunities I brought my full camera kit, including tripod.
We certainly weren't dissapointed, as Venice lived up to all we imagined it to be, and then some.
This is one of my favourite images from that evening, and it's the clasic view of gondolas tied up at the front of St Mark's Square.
I've seen loads of beautiful images of this view on various websites, such as davidnoton.com, mostly taken at dawn with blurred gondolas. I didn't want to repeat exactly what I'd seen before, so I waited until nearly all the light had bled from the sky before taking this very low light exposure, in which the gondolas are reduced to impressionistic blurs with the islands of Guidecca and San Giorgio Maggiori in the background.
