Sometimes you don't need to see the big picture to know exactly where you are in the world.
Gondolas, with their uniquely shaped prows, are so ingrained in peoples' perception of Venice that a photo of just part of one is enough to set the imagination running.
This particular example was photographed in the main gondola park by St Mark's Square, looking out over the lagoon to the island of San Giorgio Maggiore.
I ended up taking quite a few images here, trying to get the gondola prow in just the right spot as it was bobbing up and down in the swell.
