Gondola Prow #2

Gondola prow, Venice, Italy

The story behind this image

Sometimes you don't need to see the big picture to know exactly where you are in the world.

Gondolas, with their uniquely shaped prows, are so ingrained in peoples' perception of Venice that a photo of just part of one is enough to set the imagination running.

This particular example was photographed close by to the Ponte della Costituzione, a new bridge at the far end of the Grand Canal, and is set off by the surrounding colourful abstract reflections of water ripples on the old brickwork of a smaller bridge.

I made sure to crop out any surrounding structure from the composition, leaving just an abstract thought and letting the imagination fill in the details.
