The story behind this image

My wife Liz and I have spent a lot of our leisure time over the years exploring the beauties of North Wales, driving to the coast and mountains of Snowdonia to enjoy hiking in the world famous scenery.

But we'd never paid that much attention to our own part of northeast Wales until the coronavirus lockdowns of Autumn 2020 forced us to look closer to home for our adventures.

And we've benefitted so much from these travel restrictions, discovering gorgeous walks and scenery just a few miles from home.

Such as the trail we found along this bridle path, skirting the flanks of Pen-y-Cloddiau in the Clwydian Range Area of Oustanding Natural Beauty and giving huge views out over the fertile Vale of Clwyd to the west.

Of course, the weather helped in our appeciation, with an unseasonably warm and sunny afternoon on which to enjoy our day out.

So as we meandered along I was constantly stopping to photograph the wonderful landscapes and weatherbeaten, gnarly old trees such as this hawthorne, resplendant in red berries as befits the season.
