The south end of the Boboli Gardens to the south of Florence marks the end of that city, but looking out over the garden's boundary wall gives you this stunning view of a typical rural Tuscan scene.
There's all the elements you'd expect in the Tuscan countryside laid out in front of you. Poplar trees, isolated farmsteads, rolling hills and so on.
I took several individual images of isolated aspects of this scene, but in the end I knew that the only way to convey a decent impression of the place was by using a panoramic image format.
But I had a problem. Due to RyanAir's somewhat limited baggage policy I was without my tripod, so I was unable to take the individual exposures needed to make this panorama in my usual careful manner.
So the six exposures I took to make this stitched panorama were all handheld.
I did my best to keep everything level, with plenty of overlap between the individual frames, and guess what? It worked!
Thanks in no small measure to the extraordinary stitching capabilities of Adobe PhotoShop CS5 I've now got this wonderful reminder of a fantastic day out looking at Tuscany.
