A thigh burning climb up the Devil's Kitchen from Llyn Idwal eventually puts you up high on the Glyderau range of peaks in the Snowdonia National Park, North Wales.
To the east lies the cornish pasty shaped peak of Tryfan, while to the north west lies the much less visited rock monolith of Y Garn, overlooking the Ogwen valley.
On this afternoon of dramatic heavy clouds, my son Andy and I decided to turn west for a change and headed up Y Garn.
A lot more puffing and panting (on my part anyway) got us to the top where we were rewarded with this fantastic view of Tryfan and Llyn Ogwen under lowering rain clouds.
Needless to say we didn't stay there long with those clouds descending on us, but thankfully we managed to keep ahead of the rain on the way back down.
A monochrome conversion of the original colour transparency gives a much better impression of the moodiness of the day than the original.
