I'm a sucker for photographing dilapidation in all its forms, and the west of Ireland with its ancient history and air of genteel decay is a rich source of subject matter for me.
I saw this old rowboat while walking along the river bank in the village of Cong, which straddles the counties of Mayo and Galway, and immediately fell in love with the wonderful air of abandonment that the scene engendered.
The colours of the boat's fading paintwork complimented the surrounding trees perfectly and I couldn't resist taking a picture as we walked by.
Back home on the computer I softened the image somewhat to bring out the mood that I was feeling at the time - that of a slower pace of life in a land where beauty and mystery go hand in hand.
