If you go down to the woods today - you can expect some long exposure times, especially on a gloomy day at dawn.
That's the situation I found myself in during a stroll around Loggerheads Country Park early one overcast morning, camera and tripod in hand, looking for photo opportunities and enjoying the great outdoors.
The woods around me didn't have much in the way of visual appeal that morning, with flat lighting and cluttered backgrounds making finding that defining shot challenging to say the least.
So I applied a bit of lateral thinking, unclipped the camera from the tripod and tried some long exposure panning, vertical in the direction the tree trunks were growing of course!
After several attempts (isn't digital wonderful) I decided that this simple composition, involving only one tree trunk, worked the best on this occasion, with enough detail retained so that the photo is still recogniseable as a tree trunk.
