Snowdonia, with it's harsh climate and exposed topography, is home to some fantastically bent and twisted trees, clinging to life in the most improbable of places.
This is one such example, which I found somehow growing out of a bare rock on the slopes of Moel Siabod during one of my hikes in the area.
These trees, to me, are a kind of metaphor, showing that life can and does triumph in the even the most trying of circumstances - worth remembering when things get tough in our lives.
I spent a while just walking around this rock and tree looking at it, before stopping here to take this photo I what I thought was the best place to set the tree against an interesting background and dramatic sky.
I always knew that I would be converting this particular image to monochrome, to bring out the drama and sheer starkness of the location.
